Tips for Keeping the Water Clean in Your Walk-In Tub

Tips for Keeping the Water Clean in Your Walk-In Tub

Many people who have a distaste for baths say that it’s mainly due to the idea that they’re sitting in water that becomes progressively dirtier as they bathe. For those with limited mobility, however, bathing is often the easiest way to get clean. Using a walk-in tub allows them to tend to their hygiene needs independently, but they still may have some concerns about their bathwater’s cleanliness. If this is true for you, keep reading to learn how you can ensure the water in your walk-in tub is clean every time you bathe.

Look into Cleaning Systems

Many walk-in tub models come equipped with jets for a luxurious, spa-like experience. And with a single upgrade, those jets can become your own personal, water-cleaning tool. Look for walk-in tubs that have an ozone cleaning system connected to the tub’s jets. This system purifies the water every time it cycles through the jets, preventing bacteria from entering your bath water and ensuring it stays clean throughout your bath. If water cleanliness is a concern for you, this feature is an absolute must-have.

Keep the Tub Clean

One of the top things you can do on your own to ensure that your tub water is clean is first to ensure that the tub itself is clean. The first step to this is to wash out your tub after every bath. Use the handheld sprayer and take a couple of minutes to rinse off the seat, sides, and footwell. Sweep any lingering water off the seat and down into the footwell so that it can drain quickly.

You should also scrub down the tub with a gentle cleanser and nonabrasive tool once a week and purge the jet system once a month. Do this by filling the tub, adding a cup of bleach, and running the jets for 10 minutes. Turn the jets off, empty the tub, refill it, and rerun the jets with just water for another 10 minutes. This will make sure no bacteria accumulate in the jets, and you’re not mixing any dirt or lingering skin cells into your bath water from the moment you fill it up.

Rinse Yourself First

You don’t always need to rinse yourself before you bathe. However, if you find that you’re especially dirty on any given day, enter the tub, sit down, and spray yourself off with the handheld sprayer, letting the dirty water drain out before filling the tub. Whether your legs are covered with dirt from gardening, or you have sand stuck to your skin from being at the beach, a quick rinse will keep these things out of your bath water so you can soak and bathe more comfortably.

Clean bath water is essential for a relaxing bath in your walk-in tub. So follow these tips, and you’ll never have to worry about dirty bathwater again!
