Differences Between Corporate And Residential Interior Design

There is much value in a well-designed space. Not only can it invoke a certain emotion or feeling when you are in a particular space, or does it make one feel better by just admiring the well-designed space, but having a well-designed space can turn a normal space into a highly functioning space. Interior design can also change the quality of life for occupants living in the space.

There are two types of interior design namely: residential interior design and commercial interior design. Both may require the same generic kind of skillset, however note that the way that this set of skills is applied is totally different. To be a successful interior design, there are a range of skillset that one needs to hone. Many would not realize the amount of effort it takes just to turn a design idea into a reality.

Different Space Types

Residential interior design would mainly be the interior design of homes. However for commercial interior design, it includes: corporate office interior design, hospital interior design, industrial space interior design, and more. All these different spaces have different functionality and thus a corporate interior designer have to be able to understand that and plan out an interior space that can cater to those functionality.

Different Needs& Functionality

Because of the different nature of the different spaces out there, the functionality can be extremely different. A residential space would have a standard set of equipment needed such as the kitchen appliances, the toilet, the entertainment space, and bedrooms. However, because there is a wide range of commercial space types, each space have different functions all together.

A residential interior would need to understand the needs of the occupants in the house, however for a commercial interior designer, there are different stakeholders involved, which would include the management, the employees, the landlord, the security team, etc.

Different Image

Lastly, a residential interior designer does not need to worry about brand image or corporate identity. As long as the occupants are happy and felt that the design elements provides the kind of image that they desire, the interior designer can rest. However, a commercial interior designer would need to take into the company’s corporate identity and brand image, and ensure that the design elements is consistent and matches with that.
