Permits
First things first, don’t start going crazy in your bathroom until you know if you’ll need a building permit. As a general rule, if you’re going to make structural changes, you’ll need a permit. This means if you want to take out a wall, change the floorplan, or anything else that will affect the building’s structure, you need a permit.
If you’re just going to replace the flooring, paint a couple of walls, and swap out the bathroom faucet, you probably won’t need one.
However, the rules vary depending on where you live, so be sure to check before you begin.
Choose a Contractor for the Project
The right contractor will make or break your project. Inexperienced contractors may underquote the job and not fully understand how to attain your vision. A full-service, experienced contractor like Precise Services can help you through every step of the process from designing to seeing your showroom-ready bathroom for the very first time.
Design Your New Bathroom
Here comes the fun part, it’s time to design your new look. Not sure how to attain the style you want? Don’t know how to choose perfectly complementing colours?
No problem! That’s why you hired an experienced company in the last section. They can help you with the planning and design, offering ideas that you might never have thought of to make your vision a reality.
Set a Timeline for the Renovation
Renovating a bathroom can take a while. This isn’t like a simple remodel where you slap on a couple of coats of paint and call it good. Most renovations will take approximately 3-5 weeks depending on the details of the renovation. Your contractor can help you determine if your calculations are correct.
Plan to not need that bathroom for that amount of time. It will be torn up and completely unusable for much of the renovation process.
Renovate!
Once you’ve laid the groundwork, it’s time to let the professionals get to work. The process begins with the strip-out of the old materials. Be sure to organise a skip to haul the debris away from your home.
Plumbers will work on the plumbing, electricians will work on the wiring, new cabinets and fixtures will be installed. The bathroom will be waterproofed and tiling, grouting, and painting will happen.
Once the bathroom is mostly put back together, plumbers and electricians come in again to do the fit-outs. Shower screens, mirrors, and other accessories will be installed.
With all the finishing touches in place, the bathroom will be inspected and you’ve got your dream bathroom!
