4th of July Decorating Ideas

The 4th of July is everyone’s favorite summer holiday and invokes the thought of backyard barbecues full of grilled meat and cold beverages. As the celebration commemorating the birth of our nation, the 4th of July is by far the most patriotic holiday in America. With so many people having backyard parties with their friends and families, decorating your party area to look patriotic is very important to the overall aesthetics of the day. While it may seem obvious to just splash red, white, and blue colors all over the place and buy as many items with the American Flag on them as possible, there are some key things to keep in mind when coming up with your decorating scheme.

Balloons

Balloons are one of the most universal decorations available, and they can turn any party or event into a visually-appealing wonderland on a budget. Just head to your favorite local party supply store and buy some cheap red, white, and blue balloons to display throughout your backyard or party area. If you want to take things up a notch, you can always fill the balloons with helium; but normally regular air will do the job nicely. Best of all, you will have plenty of fun items to hand out to the kids at your 4th of July party that will keep them occupied until it’s time to start lighting off the fireworks.

Table Decorations

Decorating your table is one of the most important parts of your color scheme. Because your guest will likely be at the buffet table several times throughout the party, you’ll want to make sure it looks great and patriotic. Fortunately, there are several premade table clothes that have the stars and stripes in all their glory that will look great as guests dish up and also while they do their sparklers during the fireworks show. Since it will be one of the largest splashes of color, make sure you don’t skimp on your table covering.

Plates and Napkins

Every detail needs to be kept in mind, and eating utensils are no exception. You will want to have red and blue plates for your guests to use, and also have some patriotic napkins such as flag print. If you can’t find flag print napkins, you can buy either red or blue plates and compliment them with napkins of the opposite color. These items should be very easy to find around the 4th of July, so you shouldn’t have any issues making this happen.

Bunting

Since you’re probably going to be outside for your party, placing bunting in as many places as possible can really set the mood for a large space. Usually you can fins 3 color bunting with stripes of red, white, and blue to jazz up any horizontal runs such as fences or deck railings to completely encompass your backyard or party area with patriotic colors. If you are having your party indoors, the same concept applies for handrails at staircase banisters.
